Paper Christmas Trees!

I saw this idea from the holiday special on TV for decorating the White House at Christmas. I thought this is a cute alternative to a traditional Christmas tree. I believe everyone can make a variation of this craft. I personally like it on a small scale to decorate a table scape or mantel. Using some artifical snow (such as batting) with some white lights tucked into it would make it look very pretty!

Here are a few ideas to get those creative minds flowing!

Busy around the Holidays!

   I wanted to post to let you know I am running behind on the 25 days. We had a death in the family last week and it has taken me away from my blogging.  As we know this always a busy time of year but this year it seems to be a little more busy for us. I will be updating this week with many ideas trying to catch up to the 25 days! I hope you are all having a wonderful holiday season!

Day 9 Paper Ornaments

Paper Ornaments

I was thinking how I could use all of these left over book pages from my wreath and came up with the idea of ornaments. I cut out countless amounts of different sized circles and ovals to make three dimensional ornaments. I folded the shape I wanted in half with my bone folder to make a nice crisp edge. Then I used a combination of white glue and double stick tape to hold the shapes together. This made a long accordion shape, which I then strung together with a needle and thread to make a circular shape.  I used a nice ribbon to act as the fastener to hang on the tree. Day 8 Recycled Paper Wreath

Recycled Wreath

I thought this idea was a great way to add a vintage feel to my back door. The wreath is made from old books that had been discarded from the library. I bought a wire wreath form and used that for my base. I folded the book pages to make pleats and wired them to the form. You could use old news paper or sheet music in replacement of the book pages. Even some pretty paper from the craft store would work. I had some leftover satin green ribbon to add some festive flare. These pictures from the web were my inspiration to make my holiday creation.

Day 7 Advent Calendar

No Sweets for Treats Advent Calendar!

Usually you start this calendar on the 1st of December but my calendar this year was broken. I needed to come up with a replacement. I love the idea of doing something different then the traditional candy calendars. These are a few ideas I have come across to make my new Advent Calendar. The ornament calendar is a wonderful idea to showcase you most special treasures and I like the idea of making #25 a new addition to the tree. My husband and I get a new ornament each for the tree every year. Last year we found them on a trip we took to Maine. This calendar would be a great place to show them off.

 This is the winner for me but I am still looking for a beautiful old antique frame to jazz this idea up!

Day 6 Teardrop Wreath

Teardrop Wreath!

This year my front door is a lot larger than my old front door. My old wreath just wasn't cutting it. I was thinking about doing a wreath with all silver ball ornaments. Then I saw this in a magazine. It was greens in the shape of a teardrop. I was able to get the same garland that was already around my door to match. I then added some embellishments. I found my favorite gilver color in some leaf sprigs. I plucked them in all around to add some sparkle. I added some more pine cones for filler. This was simple and made everything come together. I am still thinking about putting a lovely bow on it.

Day 5 Jute Tree skirt

Jute Tree Skirt

With the addition of my new tree, I also needed a new tree skirt. I wanted to originally use burlap. Unfortunately they ran out of it at my local fabric store. Seeing this is a time sensitive project I choose to use jute instead. Which is still has a natural and organic feel to it.

There is no sewing involved in this project. I used one yard of fabric and I bought some ribbon to add as trim. I cut my fabric in a circle to have about a 45" circumference. I then cut up one side to the center and cut away a small circle for the base of the tree to fit. Using my hot glue I trimmed out the edges with gilver colored glitter ribbon and a beautiful satin ribbon in the color of moss. I adorned the front of the skirt with our family name initial using some left over ribbon.

It looks beautiful under the tree! The pictures do it very little justice.
